BEFORE YOU BEGIN – SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
· Use caution when mounting the Flextek. Remember there are many electrical wires, gas lines, vacuum lines, brake lines, as well as a gas tank in the automobile. Make sure you know where they are when mounting the Flextek Unit to avoid puncturing lines, shorting wires or drilling holes in the gas tank.
· To avoid damage to the Flextek, mount Flextek unit and run all wires away from heat sources such as the exhaust manifold.
· Avoid sharp edges when running wires.
· Always use a grommet to protect wires running through the firewall.
· NEVER PRESSURE WASH FLEXTEK
· ENGINE PROTECTION MUST BE ADDED TO CLEAN CRANKCASE OIL AND THEN DRIVEN FOR 2 TANKS FULL OF GASOLINE BEFORE RUNNING VEHICLE ON ETHANOL. SEE FLEXTEK OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS.
· Flextek should be professionally installed according to Installation Instructions.
FLEXTEK OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. Add Engine Protection Chemicals: Make sure Flextek is in the gas mode. The switch on the Flextek unit must be in the “G” position and the light on the remote switch must be off. Change vehicle oil and filter. Add the 12 ounce bottle of permanent engine protection included with the Flextek Kit to the engine oil being careful not to overfill the crankcase. Add the upper cylinder treatment to a full tank of gasoline.
2. Mark the mileage sticker that came with your unit with the vehicle’s current mileage and calculate what your mileage will be after 2 tanks full of driving on gasoline. Do not use E-85 until you have driven the vehicle for 2 tanks full of gasoline after adding the engine protection chemicals.
3. After driving the vehicle on 2 tanks full of gasoline, you may use E85 fuel or gasoline. When the vehicle tank contains more than about 40% E85, switch the remote switch to the ethanol mode. A dim light on the switch will turn on when the unit is in the ethanol mode. When fueling up with gasoline you should switch the remote switch back to the gasoline mode. The light on the switch is off when the Flextek is in the gasoline mode.
4. Locate Mounting Position: Locate an area in the engine compartment of the vehicle to mount the Flextek Unit. The location you have selected must meet the following requirements in order for the Flextek to be properly installed: · Location must allow the female connector end of each injector lead to reach each corresponding fuel injector. · Flextek must be mounted to a solid mounting surface. Examples of solid mounting surfaces are the firewall and the inner fender well. · Flextek Unit and all wires must be kept away from heat sources such as exhaust manifolds. · Flextek Unit and wires must not interfere with any control linkages or cables.
5. Mount Unit: Drill holes in mounting surface as necessary and Secure Flextek Unit to mounting surface using 2 self tapping screws. DO NOT DEFORM OR DRILL ANY ADDITIONAL HOLES IN FLEXTEK UNIT. Always mount unit through factory Flextek mounting holes.
6. Secure Ground Wire: The single black wire with the round terminal end is the negative ground wire. It must be connected directly to the vehicle chassis. We do not recommend extending the ground wire in any installation. The ground point in the vehicle should be a piece of chassis metal that is part of or welded to the main body of the vehicle. Painted surfaces should be scraped or sanded clean to expose the bare metal before the ground lug is bolted down. (To prevent rust cover the bare metal area with paint or grease AFTER you finish mounting the ground wire.)
7. Connect Injector Leads: Disconnect the vehicle’s factory wiring harness from each fuel injector being very careful to not damage the wiring harness, clips or electrical connections. Then, route one Flextek injector lead to each fuel injector, being careful to keep wires away from heat sources, control linkages and cables. Plug the female end of each Flextek injector lead onto a fuel injector, and the male end of each Flextek injector lead onto the corresponding female plug on the factory wiring harness.
8. IF YOU EXPERIENCE ANY DIFFICULTY INSTALLING YOUR FLEXTEK UNIT PLEASE CALL US AT 1-800-472- 7409 AND ASK FOR TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE.
9. If using the remote switch, the flextek box should always remain in the “G” position. If you choose not to use the remote switch you will have to flip from “A” to “G” manually depending on your fuel choice.
OPTIONAL REMOTE SWITCH INSTALLATION
1. Locate remote switch wire. Remote switch wire is wire with three small rectangular white connectors.
2. Locate an existing hole in the firewall. Feed the wire through and into your cab area. Area where wires pass through the firewall must be protected by a grommet.
3. Mount switch to dashboard. Attach wires to switch according to the “Instructions for Installing Your Remote Switch” which is included with the Flextek kit.
4. Once your switch is installed you should keep it off (not illuminated) until you are ready to begin using alcohol. When you are ready to begin using alcohol simply turn the switch on. The switch will illuminate letting you know you are in alcohol mode.
